In order to get the “special” saved games from your PC to the XBOX, we will have to make a USB drive that will work for both devices. For this you will need:
- Male / Female USB cable
- XBOX controller (or just the connector and wire)
- Compatible USB drive (check HERE for a list of drives that will work)
- Splicing materials
I used a USB extension cable (Male and Female ends) and the base of an XBOX controller cable. Fortunately, the port on an XBIX is really a USB connection with a proprietary connector.
Cut both cables and splice them together, matching the colors
RED >RED
BLACK > BLACK
WHITE > WHITE
GREEN > GREEN
The XBOX connector will have an additional orange wire that is not needed. You can just cut it
And here is the final product
To use your USB drive on the XBOX, plug it into the female end of the wire
And plug the wire into a controller port on your XBOX – WARNING – this drive will automatically be reformatted with FATX format as soon as you select “Memory” from the XBOX dashboard. ALL DATA WILL BE LOST ON THIS USB DRIVE.
YES – that is a Commodore monitor – stay tuned for my next project – Hosting a website on a Commodore 64.. anyway…
Select “Memory” on the XBOX dashboard. You may receive a warning about a problem with your memory card and that it has been erased. This is normal. If the screen just flickers constantly, you are using an incompatible USB drive or there may be a splicing issue in the wiring.
Your USB drive is complete!
